Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of mindfulness between the risk factors of employment environment and burnout amongst play therapists. The subjects comprised of 212 play therapists who have worked in the area of play therapy in Seoul and Gyunggi-do. The collected data was analyzed by means of the Pearson`s correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis by use of the SPSS 23.0 statistical program. The results which were significant were analyzed graphically and a simple slope analysis was conducted. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Firstly, higher levels of the sub-factors of play therapists` risk factors in employment environment(role conflict, role ambiguity, work overload) predicted significantly higher likelihood of burnout. Secondly, higher levels of the sub-factors of play therapists` mindfulness(present awareness, concentration, non-judgemental acceptance, decentralized attention) predicted significantly lower levels of burnout. Thirdly, the moderating effect of the total score of mindfulness and the sub-factors of mindfulness(non-judgemental acceptance, decentralized attention) on the relationship between play therapists` risk factors associated with their employment environment and burnout was significant. In contrast, the moderating effect of the sub-factors of mindfulness(present awareness, concentration) on the risk factors associated with their employment environment and burnout was not significant. In conclusion, this study confirmed the important role of play therapists` mindfulness in decreasing burnout. Therefore, in order to reduce burnout amongst play therapists arising from the risk factors associated with their employment environment, mindfulness enhancement programs should be actively implemented.
